On his 20th birthday, Maddock enlisted with the United States Army with hopes of joining the war and learning to fly. However, the US had not yet entered the war. Therefore, he received training and learned to fly in Texas and California, earning the rank of First Lieutenant.

On July 1st, 1917, he was transferred to France’s 27th Aero Squadron, where he flew many successful air missions against the German Air Force.

On March 20th, 1918, his plane was shot down by enemy flack guns. He managed to make a crash landing just behind German lines and was subsequently captured. He spent 9 months in a German prison and was eventually released at the end of the war on November 30th, 1918.

By the end of the war, he had scored 22 aerial victories. During his deployment, he earned numerous medals from both the US and France: Medal of Honor, Distinguished Flying Cross, Croix de Guerre and a Prisoner of War medal after his release.

Years after the war ended, he was recruited into Census on April 8th, 1933 CE by Agent Wolfe. He currently serves as a Census Enforcer.
